Committee Purpose and Mission:

To empower and inform Neighborhood Revitalization Zones (NRZs) and the larger community, encouraging a shift toward sustainable practices that improve every resident’s standard of life while preserving and safeguarding the natural environment in which they live.

Activities, Duties and Responsibilities:

The Committee shall:
  • Make sure that, in furthering this goal, its actions will counsel acknowledged environmental justice advocates in the Hartford region.
  • Acknowledging the distinct obstacles and inequalities encountered by certain disenfranchised communities, the committee will promote educational and environmental endeavors that will equitably benefit the health and well-being for all Hartford communities. 

Goals, Activities, Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Working in conjunction with the Program Committee, develop programs that will focus on educating and engaging NRZs’ members and Hartford citizens about environmental issues affecting the City of Hartford.
  •  In order to accomplish NRZs and neighborhood aims and objectives, programming will also encourage and facilitate community involvement in the operations of governmental and non-governmental organizations.
  • Work to collaborate with other environmental entities to enhance Hartford NEXT, NRZs and residents’ knowledge of said entities resources.

  • Submit to the Executive Committee any “call to action” activities (i.e. letters of support; position statements, etc.) on matters that have an impact on neighborhood or Citywide environment status.
  • Committee’ review for environmental education may include, but not limited to: Climate Change; Healthcare Environmental Sustainability; Environmental Sustainability & Justice; Educational Sustainability; Ecosystem Service Benefits.
  • Issues or matters regarding nature throughout our city, including parks, greenspaces like, open space, urban wilds, wildlife sanctuaries, riparian zones, etc.

  • In collaboration with Hartford communities, this Committee will advance a positive vision of nature in our neighborhoods that will support beneficial quality of life throughout the city for present and future generations.
